In the previous blog post (part 1) I have shared with you the first Hebrew word that describes part of the creation process.
‘’ASAH’’ - If you can recall, this means to construct or bring forth from an existing material.
Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let us make (ASAH) man in Our image, according to Our likeness.
If you have not read the previous blog, do so as you will be thoroughly blessed!!
The second Hebrew word that I want to dissect is ‘’BARA ‘’
‘’BARA’’ – it’s a verb meaning: to create, to form or to carve from nothing or the invisible/unseen. An entirely new production is associated with ‘’BARA”
In the context of creation, ‘’BARA’’ refers to an activity which can only be performed by God and it is done out of nothing. If you compare the first Hebrew word, ‘’ASAH’’, with ‘’BARA’’ you will find that ‘’ASAH’’ refers to fashioning an already created object and ‘’BARA’’ is the creation of something out of nothing – which only God can perform.
See following interesting fact:
Wordstudy (e-Sword) explanation of the Hebrew word “BARA” :
H1254
ba?ra?’:A verb meaning to create. Only God is the subject of this verb.
It is used for His creating:
- heaven and earth (Gen_1:1);
- humanity (Gen_1:27);
- the heavenly host (Isa_40:26);
- the ends of the earth (Isa_40:28);
- north and south (Psa_89:12 [13]);
- righteousness; salvation (Isa_45:8);
- evil (Isa_45:7).
Both these meanings bring Genesis 1 to life!! The creation process is astoundingly amazing and it displays God’s true character - He is truly interested in the details of everything.
Be blessed!
The next Hebrew word is ‘’ YATSAR’’. Be sure to read the next blog
